Manchester Take Out Must-Haves: Garlic Bread Edition
When you put together a Manchester take out order, you have to make sure you include everything you need for a complete meal. You need the main event, like pizza or a sub, and it’s nice to balance that out with a salad. But that’s not all you need. You can’t forget about the sides. There are plenty of great options, such as waffle fries or buffalo tenders, but there’s one that really stands out: garlic bread. It remains a favorite because it’s delicious and beautiful in its simplicity.
When we say historic, we’re going way back in time—all the way back to ancient times, specifically Ancient Rome. We can trace the origins of garlic bread back to bruschetta, a simple meal the poorer classes often enjoyed. The name “bruschetta” comes from the Latin word brusciare, which means “to burn” or “to toast.” A common variation was bruschetta alla Romana, toasted bread with garlic, olive oil, and salt.
Garlic bread also has an important role in more modern culinary history and traditions. The version of garlic bread that we know and love today came about because of Italian immigrants to the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In America, butter was easier to come by than olive oil, and baguettes from their French neighbors proved to be the perfect vehicle for butter, garlic, and herbs. It was a great idea, and garlic bread has changed very little since then.
As much as we love a side of history with our dinner, there are also health benefits to eating garlic. Garlic has natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, so eating it regularly can boost your immune system. It’s also been linked to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, so you can feel good about adding some garlic bread to your take out order!
When you’re looking for great take out food in Manchester, you need to give Alley Cat Pizzeria a call! We have delicious New York-style pizza, mouth-watering subs, and so much more (including garlic bread, of course).
